Question 644547: choose the equation for the line passing through (4 -2) and perpendicular to x-3y=3
Answer by tools(3) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! If sometin is perpendicular then the product of der gradient is equal to -1 i.e M1.M2=-1 bt frm the given eqn m1 is 1/3 hw do i know dat is throgh the eqn of line i.e y=mx+c .first make the coefficient of y to be 1 den then coeffient of x is m i.e x-3y=3 then re write it as -3y=-x+3 and the it can be rewrite as 3y=x-3 [by multiplyin through by -1]. Then make y to have coeffient of one [ i.e divide throug by coefficient of y] .y =x/3-3. Since they are perpendicular m1m2=-1 then m2=-3 from eqn m=change in y axis/change in x axis then -3=y--2/x-4 , -3=y+2/x-4 cross multipily then eqn is y+3x+10=0
