Most people use factor trees to do this these days. That's real difficult to do in this program, so what I'm going to do is divide by the smallest numbers I know that will go evenly into 40, then the reamianders. The left column will be the prime factors.
Find the prime factorization of 40
2 * 20
2 * 10
2 * 5
5 * 1
The prime factors are 2*2*2*5 or 2%5E3%2A5
