You can put this solution on YOUR website!
At 7:00 A.M. Brooke leaves home to go on a buisness trip driving 35 miles per hour. Fifteen minutes later, Bart discovers that Brooke forgot her presentation materials. He drives 50 miles per hour to catch up with her. If Bart is delayed 30 minutes with a flat tire, when will he catch up with Brooke?
-----------------------
Brooke DATA:
Rate= 35 mph ; time= x hrs; distance = 35x miles
------------
Bart= 50 mph ; time = x-(1/4)-(1/2) = x-(3/4) hrs; distance =50(x-(3/4)
=50x-37.5 mi
EQUATION:
35x=50x-37.5
-15x=-37.5
x=2.5 hrs
Bart will catch up with Brooke 2 1/2 hrs after Brooke leaves home or
at 9:30AM
Cheers,
