An irrational number is a real number that cannot be written as a simple fraction.
some examples of irrational numbers:

The popular approximation of 22%2F7+=+3.1428571428571... is close but not accurate.
Many square roots, cube roots, etc are also irrational numbers. Examples: sqrt+%282%29, sqrt+%283%29,sqrt+%2899%29
