You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A rectangle is twice as long as it is wide.If both its dimensions are increased by 4 m,its area is increased by 88 m squared.Make a sketch as in Oral Exercise 1.Find the dimensions of the original rectangle.
L=2W
AREA OF ORIGINAL RECTANGLE = LW = 2W*W=2W^2
L IS INCREASED TO L+4=2W+4
W IS INCREASED TO W+4
AREA OF NEW RECTANGLE = (2W+4)(W+4)==2W^2+12W+16
INCREASE IN AREA = 2W^2+12W+16-2W^2=12W+16=88
12W=88-16=72
W=72/12=6
L=2W=12
