Question 639784: what is the domain and range of the relation and state whether or not the relation is a function {(3,9) (3,10) (3,11) (3,12)}
Answer by neatmath(302) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The domain is simply the set of x values: {3}
The range is simply the set of y values: {9,10,11,12}
Since there are multiple y values for any given x value,
this relation is NOT a function.
If graphed, it would fail the Vertical Line Test.
For a relation to be a function, for any particular x value (or input value),
there can only be one corresponding y value (or output value).
I hope this helps! :)
