You can put this solution on YOUR website!
determine whether the equation defines y as a function of x 6x^2+7y^2=1. Does the equation define y as a function of x
**
If y is a function of x, for each x there is only one value of y.
Rewrite equation:
7y^2=1-6x^2
y^2=(1-6x^2)/7
y^2=[(1-6x^2)/7]
y=±√[(1-6x^2)/7]
By inspection you can see that for each x, you will have two different values of y
Therefore, y is not a function of x in this case.
