Question 635477: you and a friend take turns driving on a 530 mile trip. your friend drives for 4 and half hours at an average of 60mph. What must you average for the remainder of the trip if you want to reach your hotel in 4 mour hours? Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
Distance equals rate times time. So the time the friend drove times his rate of speed is the distance that he drove. Subtract that distance from 530 miles resulting in the distance still to be driven. That distance divided by the required time is the average rate of speed required.
