Question 63482: One number is 6 more than another. If the sum of the smaller number and 3 times the larger number is 34, find the two numbers. Answer by ptaylor(2198) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let x=the smaller number
Then x+6=the larger number
We are told that the sum of the smaller number (x) and three times the larger number 3(x+6) equals 34. So, our equation to solve would be:
x+3(x+6)=34 simplifying
x+3x+18=34
4x=34-18
4x=16
x=4 smaller number
x+6=4+6=10 larger number
Hope this helps. Have a nice holiday season----ptaylor
