Question 634554: When a system cannot be solved because it is independent does that mean that there is no solution or does it mean that there are an infinitely many answers. This comes upe when I use the elimination method to solve the system of euations or when I solve the system by the substitution method. Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! If equations are multiples of each other they have infinite number of solutions. They are the same line.
If they have no solution they are parallel.
2x+2y=4
4x+4y=8
or
y=3x-2
2y=6x-4
same line infinite number of solutions
y=3x-2
y=3x-4
parallel lines with no solutions
