Question 632980: The sum of two numbers is 45. Twice the smaller number is three more the larger number. What is the product of the two numbers? Answer by Maths68(1474) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let x be the smaller and y be the larger number
The sum of two numbers is 45
x+y=45
x=45-y........(1)
Twice the smaller number is three more the larger number.
2x=y+3.............(2)
Substitute the value of x from (1) to (2)
2(45-y)=y+3
90-2y=y+3
-2y-y=3-90
-3y=-87
-3y/-3=-87/-3
y=29
Put the value of y in (1)
x=45-y........(1)
x=45-29
x=16
Numbers are 16 and 29
Product of the numbers = 16*29=464
