You can put this solution on YOUR website! find the slope, if it exists, of the line containing the pair of two points(-19,-16)(-20,-18)
We use the slope formula:
(y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)
(-18 -(-16)/(-20 - (-19)
-18 -(-16) = -18 + 16 = -2
-20 -(-19) = -20 + 19 = -1
Therefore:
-2/-1 = 2
The Slope: 2
Now let's find out the equation of the line:
(y - y1) = m(x - x1)
y - (-16) = 2(x - (-19)
y - (-16) = y + 16
x - (-19) = x + 19
y + 16 = 2(x + 19)
2 * x = 2x
2 * 19 = 38
y + 16 = 2x + 38
Subtract 16 from each side of the equation.
y + 16 - 16 = 2x + 38 - 16
Combine like terms:
16 - 16 = 0
38 - 16 = 22
The equation of the line:
y = 2x + 22
The Slope: 2
