A Math test has a mean of 53 and standard deviation of 16.0.
Find the corresponding z scores for:
I. a test score of 19 z = (19-53)/16 = -34/16 = - 2.125 ouch!
II. a test score of 70 z = (70-53)/16 = 17/16 = 1.0625 much better
Important to Understand z -values as they relate to the Standard Normal curve:

Note: z = 0 (x value the mean) 50% of the area under the curve is to the left and 50% to the right
