Question 630553: Please HELP! I need to:
- Determine how many solutions exist
- Use either elimination or substitution to find the solutions (if any)
- Graph the two lines, labeling the x-intercepts, y-intercepts, and points of intersection
I have problems with decimals and need to know step by step how to solve this.
0.2x + 0.4y = 1.7 and 8.3x - 6.3y = -4.3

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Please HELP! I need to:
- Determine how many solutions exist
- Use either elimination or substitution to find the solutions (if any)
- Graph the two lines, labeling the x-intercepts, y-intercepts, and points of intersection
I have problems with decimals and need to know step by step how to solve this.
0.2x + 0.4y = 1.7 ....eqn 1
8.3x - 6.3y = -4.3.....eqn 2
multiply both eqns by 10
so
2x+4y=17 ......eqn 3
83x-63y=-43 ...eqn 4
multiply eqn 3 by 83 & eqn 4 by 2 7 subtract
166x+332y=1411
166x-126y=-86
- + +
-------------
458y=1497 => y=1497/458=3.27
from eqn 3 x=(17-4x3.27)/2=1.96
ans upto 2 decimals
