You can put this solution on YOUR website! THIS IS ABOUT USING RATES.......
Wyonna bought a prepaid calling card for $5. It allows her to make 80 minutes worth of calls.
A. estimate the prepaid calling cards cost per minute. Explain your thinking.
A little more than $.06, because $4.80 would be $.06(80).
:
B. Calculate the actual cost per minute
$5.00/80min=$.0625 per min.
:
C. After purchasing her prepaid card, wyonna made a 15- minute call to her friend Samson. How much is the card worth now?
$5.00-$0.0625(15)
$5.00-$.9375
$4.0625
:
D. Wynonna’s home telephone service provides a calling card that cost 8cents per minute. Which calling card would u recommend she use? Why?
The prepaid card is $.08-$.0625=$.0175 cheaper per minute, so I would recommend that. (We aren't told if the convenience of the home telephone service is worth almost 2 cents per minute.)
:
E.
Wynonna has made plans for a 7-day vacation. She expects to make 30minutes of calls each day. How many prepaid calling cards should she take along?
7days(30min/day)=210 min
3(80 min)=240 min, therefore, she should take 3 prepaid calling cards.
Happy Calculating!!!
