Take 2x=3y and solve for one of the variables.
X = 3/2 Y or Y = 2/3 X

Now substitute one of these into the original equation and solve for the variable that is remaining in the equation.

If you substitute for X, into the original equation, then you get:

3/2 Y = Y-1 ---> 3/2 Y - Y = -1 ---> 1/2 Y = -1 ---> Y = -2

If you substitute for Y, into the original equation, then you get:

X = 2/3 X -1 ---> X -2/3 X = -1 ---> 1/3 X = -1 ---> X = -3
