The base of a triangle is twelve more than twice its height. If the area of a triangle is 46 square centimeters, find its base and height.
let x=height of triangle
2x+12=base of triangle
Area of triangle=1/2*base*height
..
46=1/2*(2x+12)*x
92=2x^2+12x
2x^2+12x-92=0
x^2+6x-46=0
Solve by following quadratic formula:
x+=+%28-b+%2B-+sqrt%28+b%5E2-4%2Aa%2Ac+%29%29%2F%282%2Aa%29+
a=1, b=6, c=-46
ans:
x≈4.42
2x+12≈20.83
height of triangle≈4.42 cm
base of triangle≈20.83 cm
