Question 629354: Dear tutor I was wondering on how to find the quotient of my problem but by only using positive exponents.

18a^-20/8a^9
I am very unsure on what steps to take to solve it.
Also I need help on this:
(w^3)(y^13)/(w^11)(y^6)
Thank you and I hope that you can help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Reduce 18%2F8 to get 9%2F4

and then subtract the exponents:
-20 - 9 = -29

So %2818a%5E%28-20%29%29%2F%288a%5E9%29+=+%289a%5E%28-29%29%29%2F%284%29

Then flip the base to make the exponent positive +%289%29%2F%284a%5E%2829%29%29

So %2818a%5E%28-20%29%29%2F%288a%5E9%29+=+%289%29%2F%284a%5E%2829%29%29

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Subtract the corresponding exponents over 'w' to get 3 - 11 = -8

Subtract the corresponding exponents over 'y' to get 13 - 6 = 7

So %28%28w%5E3%29%28y%5E13%29%29%2F%28%28w%5E11%29%28y%5E6%29%29+=+w%5E%28-8%29y%5E7

Finally, flip the base with the negative exponent to get w%5E%28-8%29y%5E7=%28y%5E7%29%2F%28w%5E8%29

So %28%28w%5E3%29%28y%5E13%29%29%2F%28%28w%5E11%29%28y%5E6%29%29+=+%28y%5E7%29%2F%28w%5E8%29
