Question 629006: A train leaves Little Rock, AK and travels north at 55 kilometers per hour. Another train leaves at the same time and travels south at 85 kilometers per hour. How long will it take before they are 420 kilometers apart? Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
Time is equal to Distance divided by Rate. One of them going 55 in one direction and the other going 85 in the other direction is just the same as one of them standing still and the other one going 140 -- at least in terms of how long it will take them to be a given distance apart. Divide the total distance by the sum of the two speeds.
