Question 628826: Dice question. Not a math wiz so please excuse my lack of correct terms:
Probability of rolling 12 using a pair of dice is 1/36
Probability of rolling 12 three times is a row is 1/36 x 1/36 x 1/36 = 1/1296 or 0.000771605
I was complaining about a the online backgammon site's dice generator rolling double sixes three times in a row all the time ex: 3 times I have rolled double six/double six/double six within a 25 total rolls. To my mind the probability of that event is very low; however, the person I was discussing it with said that the 1/1296 is the only number that applies.
Question is whether the odds of rolling 3 sets of double 6's after just completing the feat as the same as 1/1296 or if the previous event needs to be included. Follow up would be if after rolling 3 sets of double sixes 3 times in a row, two successive times in a row, what are the odds of a third time?
Thanks for helping with our dinner discussion.
to clarify. I mean rolling 6 6 / 6 6 / 6 6 over three consecutive rolls multiple times within a small amount of rolls.

Dice question. Not a math wiz so please excuse my lack of correct terms:
Probability of rolling 12 using a pair of dice is 1/36
Probability of rolling 12 three times is a row is 1/36 x 1/36 x 1/36 = 1/1296 or 0.000771605
=====================
1/36 x 1/36 x 1/36 = 1/46656 =~ 0.000021433

Each roll is an independent event, the history is not relevant.

If 6's come up a lot, it could be that the "random" number generator is not good. Making computers generate random number is not easy, but some are better than others.
