You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Multiply the first equation by 3 and the second one by 7. Add the two equations term-by-term to eliminate the -variable. Solve the resulting single variable equation for . Substitute the derived value of back into either of the original equations then solve for

Correct your vocabulary. The Elimination method is more accurate and descriptive than the Addition method.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(1) +3x+%2B+7y+=+16+
(2) +4x+-+3y+=+9+
Multiply both sides of (1) by +3+
Multiply both sides of (2) by +7+
Then add (1) and (2)
(1) +9x+%2B+21y+=+48+
(2) +28x+-+21y+=+63+
+37x+=+111+
+x+=+3+
and, since
(2) +4%2A3+-+3y+=+9+
(2) +12+-+3y+=+9+
(2) +3y+=+12+-+9+
(2) +3y+=+3+
(2) +y+=+1+
The solution is (3,1)
