You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Distance = rate x time for both trains
1st train:
+d+=+100%2A2.5+
+d+=+250+
2nd train:
+d+=+50%2A1.75+
+d+=+87.5+
+250+%2B+87.5+=+337.5+ miles

Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) About Me  (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
d = rt

d = 100*(2.5) ... Note: 2 1/2 hrs = 2.5 hrs

d = 250

So the first train went 250 miles

-------------------------------------------------------

d = rt

d = 50(1.75) ... Note: 1 hr 45 min = 1.75 hrs

d = 87.5

and the second train went 87.5 miles.

So in total, the two trains went 250+87.5 = 337.5 miles total
