You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A person travels 18 MPH going to a lodge and 12 MPH coming back. The total round trip took 6 hours. How far is the lodge from his house? (Give the answer in miles to 1 decimal place
Let x = time (hours) it takes going to lodge
then
6-x = time (hours) it takes coming back
.
applying the distance formula:
18x = 12(6-x)
18x = 72-6x
24x = 72
x = 72/24
x = 3 hours
.
distance then is:
18*3 = 54 miles
