Let x = no. ch chip cookies; Let y = no. of ch oatmeal cookies

Write the amt equation:
x + y = 20
Can also write it:
y = 20 - x
:
Write the money equation:
.50x + .35y = 8.80
:
Using the 1st equation where y = (20-x), substitute (20-x) in the 2nd equation:
.50x + .35(20-x) = 8.80
.50x + 7 - .35x = 8.80
.50x - .35x = 8.80 - 7
.15x = 1.80
x = 1.80/.15
x = 12 ch chip cookies
