Question 626867: Find the x- and y-intercepts for the equation. Please show all of your work. Then graph the equation and submit your graph through the dropbox.
-x-3y=9 Answer by KMST(5328) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The x- and y-intercepts are the points where the graph of the line crosses the x- and y-axes.
The x-axis is the line with the equation .
The graph of and the x-axis have a point in common if there is a solution to the system of linear equations
Substituting, --> -->
So the graph of crosses the x-axis at (-9,0).
The y-axis is the line with the equation .
The graph of and the y-axis have a point in common if there is a solution to the system of linear equations
Substituting, --> --> -->
So the graph of crosses the y-axis at (0,-3).
This is my graph using this website.
Your graph should look similar.
The dropbox was always a headache for my son (when he was in CCA), because it was hard to format the answer to make it look good for student and teacher.
You could use Microsoft Excel to do your graph.
That's what my son would do when he submitted an answer like that through a dropbox.
You may think of an easier way to submit your answer; maybe hand-drawing your graph (or your entire answer) and then scanning it.
For Excel, I would use the data I would do a scatter plot without lines, and then would add a trend line, extending it backward and forward.
