y = sin(2x - p)

has a phase shift of pi%2F2 to the right because
if you factor out the coefficient of x in the parentheses, like this:

y = sin[2(x - pi%2F2)]

If after factoring out the coefficient it contains (x - A) its phase 
shift is A units right

If it had contained (x + A) its phase shift would have been A units 
to the left.

It's the same with the other trig functions.
