You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Hi, there--

The Problem:
Solve for x.
19-sqrt%28x%2B1%29=0

Solution:
19-sqrt%28x%2B1%29=0

We want to isolate the variable x. Subtract 19 from both sides of the equation.
-sqrt%28x%2B1%29+=-19

Multiply both sides of the equation by -1.
sqrt%28x%2B1%29=19

Square both sides of the equation.
%28sqrt%28x%2B1%29%29%5E2=19%5E2

Squaring undoes the square root operation and we have x+1 on the left hand side. On the right,
19 squared is 361.
x%2B1=361

Subtract 1 from both sides of the equation.
x=360

Check your work by substituting 360 for x in the original equation.
19-sqrt%28x%2B1%29=0
19-sqrt%28360%2B1%29=0
19-sqrt%28361%29=0
19-19=0
0=0
True!

That's it. Please email me if you have questions or comments about the solution. I'm happy to
explain further and I'd appreciate the feedback.
