Question 623648: Not sure if this is right place to ask this question:
The problem had a step in it:
First rewrite the value of f(x) in exponential form, with base 8.
f(x)=1/512 = 1/8^3 = 8^-3
I understand that 8^3 equals 1/512, just not what steps they took. Is there an easy way to figure out the exponential form of a number? Also, why did the exponent become negative at the end step?

Hi,
As to 512 being 8^3 ... some just know that...
others arrives at that by experimenting dividing 512 by logical selections.. like an 6 or 8 ****** ********
