Question 622378: a ride in a taxi costs 2.95 plus .95 per sixth of a mile. A person's far for a ride was $14.35. How far (in miles) did the person travel? Answer by Earlsdon(6294) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The total cost (C) of the taxi ride can be expressed by: Where m = number of miles travelled. Set C = $14.35 Subtract 2.95 from both sides. Perform the indicated multiplication.. Finally, divide both sides by 5.7 miles.
Note: We used 6*m because if it cost $0.95 for one sixth of a mile, then it cost six times for one mile, hence the 6*m.
