Question 620928: |5-m| = |m+8|
how would you solve this problem

Answer by Edwin McCravy(20060) About Me  (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
|5-m| = |m+8|

That becomes two equations without absolute value bars:

   5-m = m+8             5-m = -(m+8)
   -2m = 3               5-m = -m-8
     m = 3%2F%28-2%29            -m+m = -13
     m = -3%2F2                0 = -13
                           this part has no solution

-----------------------------------------------------

 So the only solution is m = -3%2F2
