Question 61994: The sum of two numbers is 28. The larger number, y, is 4 more than the smaller number, x. Write two equations for this system and solve to find x and y.
Give your answer as an ordered pair without parentheses or spaces, as in x,y.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let the numbers be "x" and "y", we get
It is given that the sum of the numbers is 28.
Therefore x + y = 28 --->(1)
It is also given,
The larger number, y, is 4 more than the smaller number, x
y = x + 4 --->(2)
Equation(1) and equation(2), represents the equations for this system.
Substitute the equation(2) in equation(1), we get
x + x + 4 = 28
2x + 4 = 28
2x = 28 - 4
2x = 24
x = 12
Now substitute the value of x in equation(1), we get
12 + y = 28
y = 28 - 12
y = 16
Therefore the value of x = 12 and y = 16
