Question 61992: y - x = 5
2y+x=-2
Answer by funmath(2933) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! E1: y-x=5
E2: 2y+x=-2
The elimination or addition method is the method easiest used for this. Add E1+E2 and the x's will be eliminated so that you can solve for y.
y-x=5
2y+x=-2
________
3y+0=3
3y=3
3y/3=3/3
y=1
Let y=1 in either E1 or E2 and solve for x.
1-x=5
1-1-x=5-1
-x=4
-x/-1=4/-1
x=-4
The solution (x,y)=(-4,1)
It will be easier to know what you need if you give us your directions with your problem. I hope I gave you what you needed.
