Question 617937: In the table that follows. answer the questions
x y
1 1/4
2 1/2
3 3/4
4
- Would the correlation between x and y in the table above be positive or negative?
- Find the missing value of y in the table.
- How would the values of this table be interpreted in terms of linear regression?
- If a "line of best fit" is placed among these points plotted on a coordinate system, would the slope of this line be positive or negative?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! - Would the correlation between x and y in the table above be positive or negative?
* the correlation would be positive
- Find the missing value of y in the table.
* the missing value is 1
- How would the values of this table be interpreted in terms of linear regression?
you would have a straight line with the equation of y = x/4
- If a "line of best fit" is placed among these points plotted on a coordinate system, would the slope of this line be positive or negative?
* the slope of the line is positive and the correlation would be 1 which is the best correlation you can get which means every point in the data set would be exactly on that line.
* here's the values from the line of best fit equation using the ti-83 calculator.
equation of regression line is y = ax + b
a = .25
b = 0
r = 1
* r = 1 means a perfect positive correlation which means that all the points in the data set are exactly on the line.
r = -1 would be a perfect negative correlation.
r = 0 would be no correlation at all.
