You can put this solution on YOUR website!
It is not altogether clear how this problem should be read.
Is it (3/y) - 2 = 8 or is it 3/(y-2) = 8
Let's take the first one:
(3/y) - 2 = 8 Add 2 to both sides.
3/y = 10 Multiply both sides by y.
3 = 10y Divide both sides by 10.
y = 3/10 = 0.3
Now the second one:
3/(y-2) = 8 Multiply both sides by (y-2)
3 = 8(y-2) Distribute the 8.
3 = 8y - 16 Add 16 to both sides.
19 = 8y Divide both sides by 8.
y = 19/8 = 2 3/8 = 2.375
Neither one of these answers matches the one you have given.
