Question 616989: Graph the two equations to solve the system. What is the solution?
3x + 2y = 6 and y = -3/2x -1
(I am honestly confused about this, and I don't know what to do. I've tried plugging in an x y coordinate that worked with one of the equations; which took up nearly two hours. Thank you!) Answer by Alan3354(69443) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 3x + 2y = 6
y = -(3/2)x -1
-----------
y = -(3/2)x -1 --> 2y = -3x - 2
----
Sub for 2y in the 1st eqn
3x + 2y = 6
3x + (-3x - 2) = 6
-2 = 6
------------
The 2 equations are inconsistent.
There is no solution.
---
If you graph them, you get 2 parallel lines.
No intersection, no solution.
