Question 616582: The sum of two consecutive numbers is 77. The difference of half of the smaller number and one-third of the larger number is 6.
I do not understand how to write out the problem in order to solve this problem. Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The sum of two consecutive numbers is 77.
x+x+1=77
2x=76
x=38 and 39
You don't need the rest of the problem but here it is.
The difference of half of the smaller number and one-third of the larger number is 6.
x/2-(x+1)/3=6
multiply by 6
3x-(2(x+1))=36
3x-2x-2=36
x-2=36
x=38
x+1=39
