Question 615496: Determine whether each of the distributions given below represents a probability distribution. Justify your answer.
(a)
x 1 2 3 4
p(x) 3.8 1/2 7/24 1/3
(b)
x 3 6 8
p(x) 2/25 .1 4.5
(c)
x 20 35 40 50
p(x) 0.54 0.12 -0.03 0.37

You can put this solution on YOUR website! For each probability distribution, add up all the probabilities. If you get 1 as a result, then it's a true probability distribution. If you don't get 1, then it's not a probability distribution.
Ex:
In choice A), add up the probabilities 3.8, 1/2, 7/24, and 1/3 to get 3.8+1/2+7/24+1/3 = 4.925
which is NOT 1, so choice A is NOT a probability distribution
Do the same for the other answer choices.
