Question 615314: $1.95 in quarters and dimes was found in a couch. There were 4 times as many dimes as there were quarters. How many dimes and quarters were found in the couch
I can't make it past this point:
4(25x) + 10(y) = $1.95
I let x represent quarters and y represent dimes

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let
Quarters=x
Dimes=4x
$1.95=100*1.95 cents
$1.95=195 cents

(Quarter)(x)+(Dime)(4x)=195
(25)(x)+10(4x)=195
25x+40x=195
65x=195
x=195/65
x=3

Quarters=x=3
Dimes=4x=4(3)=12

Check
======
(3)(Quarter)+(12)(Dime)=195 cents
(3)(25)+(12)(10)=195
75+120=195
195=195
