The question is not correct.
IF WE
Let x=the first number
then x+1= the second number and x+2 =the third number
then x+x+1+x+2=42
combine terms
3x+2=42
subtract 2 from both sides of the equation
3x=40
THEN
x=13.33333 not a whole number.

Find three consecutive even numbers whose sum is 42. Show all your work using algebra.

Let the first even integer be E
Then other 2 are: E + 2, and E + 4

We now have: E + E + 2 + E + 4 = 42

3E + 6 = 42

3E = 36

E, or 1st even integer = 36%2F3, or 12, and the 3 CONSECUTIVE EVEN integers are: highlight_green%2812%29, highlight_green%2814%29, and highlight_green%2816%29
