Question 612423: One angle is four times as large as its supplement. What is the measure of the smaller angle?
Answer by llorton(14) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The sum of two supplementary angles is, by definition, 180 degrees.
If we let x = the smaller angle, then 4x = the larger angle
Since they are supplementary angles, we have
x + 4x = 180
5x = 180
Dividing both sides of the equation by 5 yields
x = 36
The measure of the smaller angle is 36 degrees.
