Question 612391: I need help on this please!!
Completely factor the following expression: 36y^2 – z ^2
Any help would be greatly helpful!! Found 2 solutions by nerdybill, vleith:Answer by nerdybill(7384) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! think "difference of squares"
36y^2 – z^2
can be rewritten as:
(6y)^2 – z^2 (now, it is a difference of squares)
factoring:
(6y-z)(6y+z)
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Factoring the difference of 2 squares is something you will need to be able to do. Those type of problems come up a lot
In general is a difference of 2 squares. Where one term is 6y and the other is z
there you go
Often you will be given term that are higher order, for example
And you can see that first term is still a difference of 2 squares so it can be factored again. So keep your eye open for that
