: I can't figure out how to set this one up. Can anyone help me out? Thanks
Jane went on a trip for a week. To rent a car she called two firms. Bob's wanted $35 per day with no mileage fee. The Rent-A-Car wanted $150 per week (7 days) but also wanted $.19 per mile. How many miles would have to be driven before the Rent-A-Car price is more than Bob's price?
Thanks! This question is from textbook college algebra
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Bob's Car rental charges $35 per day. This means that she would pay 7 times $35 = $245 for a week's car hire.
Rent-A-Car charges $150 per week which is $95 less than Bobs Car rental.
How far can you travel at 19 cents per mile if you have $95 to spend? Divide $95 by 0.19 to get 500. If Jane travels more than 500 miles then the Rent-A-Car price will be more than Bob's.
