Question 60818: I need to solve the following..
(x-8)^2+6=0
I am not sure of my next step
I have taken the square off and have
x-8=+ or _ the square root of -6.. but i know I can not have a negative square
so then I try and expand the problem
and get
X^2-16x+70=0
but I do not know how to get the answer from this formula when it is not a nice even number.
thanks for your help
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Well, you took the right step when you took the square root. But you know that all solutions do not necessarily result in "nice" numbers.
Subtract 6 from both sides. Take the square root (take off the square) of both sides. Add 8 to both sides.
