You can put this solution on YOUR website! two cyclists, 72 miles apart, start riding toward each other at the same time, one cyclist 2 times as fast as the other, if they meet 3 hours later, what is the speed(in mi/h) of the faster cyclist
.
Let x = speed of faster cyclist
then
x/2 = speed of slower cyclist
.
applying the distance formula: d=rt
.
3x + 3x/2 = 72
multiplying both sides by 2:
6x + 3x = 144
9x = 144
x = 144/9
x = 16 mph
