Question 606745: I am confused. Would someone please check this problem out and clarify the correct answer for me? I submitted the problem and two different tutors on this site have given me different answers. Now I do not know which answer is correct.
the problem is:
find the vertex, the line of symmetry, and the max or min value of f(x), then graph the function.
f(x) = 1/3(x+5)^2 + 3
I received the answer:
vertex: (-5, 3)
line of symmetry: x = 5
and, 3 as the minimum value of f(x)
one tutor said the line of symmetry is -5, and the other said it is 5

The vertex is either the high or low point of the function. Here it is the low point. The vertex is (-5, 3)where x=-5 and y=3 then the line of symmetry is x=-5 and the low point (minimum) is f(x)=y=3
