Question 60558: I need to solve this equation:
(500-x)/y = 1.28
(470-x)/y = 0.25

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Given (500-x)/y = 1.28-----------(1)
(470-x)/y = 0.25 ----------(2)
Multiply both sides by y, we get
(500-x) = 1.28 y ---------------(3)
(470 – x) = 0.25 y --------------(4)
Subtract the above equation, we get
30 = 1.03 y
(30 / 1.03) = y
29.12 = y
Substitute the value of “y” in the above equation, we get
500 - x = 1.28 * 29.12
500 –x = 37.28
500 -37.28 = x
462.71 = x
The value of x = 462.71 and y = 37.28
