substitute the s for -2 in the equation:
v(s)=s^3+3s^2-4s-2
v(-2)=(-2)^3+3(-2)^2-4(-2)-2
v(-2)=-8+3(4)-(-8)-2
v(-2)=-8+12+8-2
v(-2)=4+8-2
v(-2)=12-2
v(-2)=10
