"Your answer is incorrect; you can multiply a number by itself 3 times and get a negative. Therefore, you do not get i"
I have done this over and over again, please help me out I have explained to her why I think I need to challenge her. Can anyone help???
Original question with answer below (I got answer from tutor on her and phone a program that I pay to use called www.Mathway.com)
Simplify -3√-1000
Tutor response:-3√-1000 then -3i√1000 which becomes -3(10)i√10 which is -30i√10

put all the perfect square roots out from under the radical, in this case remove 10i because it is a perfect square
(-3*10i*√10)
remove the parenthesis around the expression
-3*10i*√10
multiple the -30i by -30i
resulting in
-30i√10

I fail to understand why you multiply -30i by -30i

-30i *-30 i = -30*-30*i*i= 900i^2= 900

Both the tutor and the program are correct,

So there must be a typo somewhere or the teacher is referencing a different problem maybe.
