Write the equation of a line parallel to the x-axis that passes through the point (1,4). I know because the line is parallel that y will always equal 4, but that is it. Can someone please help me undertand what to do? Thank you for your time.

a line parallel to the x axis , the equation of this line is y=k
the straight line passes thru the point (1, 4) so subsitute the coordinates.
y=4=k
y=4 is the equation
