You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A year ago a mother was four times as old as her daughter.
Three years ago she was five times as old as her daughter.
How old will her daughter be in two years time?
:
Let d = daughter's present age
let m = mom's present age
:
Write an equation for each statement:
:
"A year ago a mother was four times as old as her daughter."
m - 1 = 4(d-1)
m - 1 = 4d - 4
m = 4d - 4 + 1
m = 4d - 3
:
" Three years ago she was five times as old as her daughter."
m - 3 = 5(d-3)
m - 3 = 5d - 15
m = 5d - 15 + 3
m = 5d - 12
Replace (5d-12) for m in the 1st equation
5d - 12 = 4d - 3
5d - 4d = -3 + 12
d = 9 yrs old is the daughter
but it says:
"How old will her daughter be in two years time?"therefore
11 yrs old in two year
